Lots of Randomness

Okay - since my mental sharpness is about as sharp as a spoon right now, I can't seem to formulate a cohesive post today. So you'll get randomness.

Random Babble 1
Willikat, I saw your comment... please recommend away! I'm always on the lookout for a good book.

I was very excited that Theresa just informed me that she has recently purchased a slew of interesting books (several of which were on my Amazon wishlist). Let the most awesome book trading commence!

Random Babble 2
I made a totally awesome dinner (okay... The Mr. helped) Wednesday night for Zach and Ronny. I've proven that a vegetarian dinner doesn't have to be a bland dinner. Thank you, Jamie Oliver, for your delicious recipe. If you're interested in this recipe you can either ask me for it or just google "Jamie Oliver" + "eggplant parmesan". Don't you just love that "google" is now a verb? Brilliant.

Random Babble 3
Tonight The Mr. and I have a double date with Theresa and Jamie (who are not actually a couple although they'd make beautiful babies) at the Melting Pot. Hooray for fondue (or FUNdue as Rachael Ray likes to call it).

Random Babble 4
Kristin (my maid of honor) got engaged on Tuesday. Here were my initial thoughts, in order, only proving that I'm kind of a bad person.
1. Hooray! So exciting!
2. Oh no - I hope her ring isn't nicer than mine.
3. Crap - does this mean I have to be involved in wedding planning again?

Yes, close your mouth. I'm a bad person. But I am super happy for her! And luckily - our rings are like comparing apples and oranges so there is no comparison really. Congrats! And kudos to Jackson for a very cute proposal (a note in a bottle) and a good ring selection.

Random Babble 5
My conversation with my mother regarding Kristin's big news:
Me: So guess what? Kristin is engaged!
Mom: I bet she's very happy.
Me: You could say that...
Mom: She wanted that boy sooo badly, huh?
Me: Um... yeah? Why do you say that?
Mom: She pushed that poor girl out of her way to catch your flowers.
Me: Haha - she sure did.
Mom: When is the wedding?
Me: I don't know mom, they JUST got engaged.
Mom: Tell her not to have it in the summer. I'll sweat too much.

The Mr. and I are going to check out another kitchen countertop store tomorrow. We went to Home Depot on Monday and while we liked the countertop, we weren't too keen on it taking about 2 weeks to install (i.e. we'd have no working kitchen for 2 weeks. I'll die.). And if the weather permits, we're going to hike around Great Falls Park. We like to pretend we're into this sort of thing although I'm sure we'll just end up at Theresa's pool instead.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

sorry for the lag in recommendations... here are a few, hopefully you haven't read them all.
random family by adrian nicole leblanc. nonfic by a journalist who lived with a family in the bronx for 10 years. reads like fiction. welcome to my planet (where english is sometimes spoken) by shannon olson. a minnesotan writing a semiautobiographical and funny account of a quarter life crisis, sorta. plainsong by kent haruf--fictional story about a town in colorado. excellent character development, great story. if you liked the glass castle and haven't read mary karr's the liar's club, you should. i'll think on some more... i can never think of things when i sit down to make a list!!!
