101 in 1001?

So I finally watched Jacob's Ladder last night. I'm about 17 years late on this one. I'm not really going to give any sort of review of the movie as it was made in 1990... but I'll tell you why I felt compelled to finally watch it.

I discovered a CD in my car a couple of weeks ago when I was cleaning a little. It was a burned CD that had "Happy Birthday Kim" written on it with a Sharpie. The CD was from my friend Ben who has impeccable taste in music. He's really opened my eyes to a lot of bands that I probably never would have heard of so I was pretty stoked to rediscover this lost CD (especially since I forgot what was on it). It didn't disappoint and I came across an old favorite, "Rabbit in Your Headlights" by U.N.K.L.E. Fantastic song - sung by Thom Yorke (of Radiohead fame). Anywho - there was a clip played during an instrumental part. I didn't know what movie the clip was from but found the quote to be haunting:
If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. If you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.

Weird, I know. But I loved it. So - thanks to Google, I discovered it was from Jacob's Ladder. I had to watch it. The quote still kicks ass but the movie... eh. It was interesting, I guess.

Now unto a completely unrelated topic. Have you guys heard of 101 in 1001? Recently I've been seeing this everywhere! Its supposed to 101 things that you wish to accomplish in 1001 days (which ends up being a little less than 3 years). The first list I encountered was from a girl that went to my high school. Her list was so bizarre. It had items on there like:

dust shot glass collection
visit Havre De Grace
clean out old clothes
donate old clothes
decide if I want to pursue a Masters

Okay, first of all - the first item should have read (this is a quote from The Mr.) "Get rid of shot glass collection". I'm not that mean but I felt that it wasn't an item worth noting on a 3 year list of To-Do's unless it was like "keep shot glass collection dust-free".

Also, decide if I want to pursue a Masters? You need three years to do that? Come on! After I finished guffawing at her list, I checked out one of my favorite photographer blogs and saw that she also had her own list (with much better items). Now I want a list (this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that read yesterday's list).

So 101 things... hhmm... its taking me frickin' forever to write anything! This is what I have so far:

1. Get Master's of Science in IT
2. Finish Honeymoon Photo Album
3. Finish Wedding scrapbook
4. Burn all Digital photos on computer onto a CD and store
5. Donate hair to Locks of Love
6. Volunteer for something (Habitat for Humanity, etc.)
7. Donate wedding dress
8. Get 5 people to start recycling
9. Stop drinking bottled water (use tap!)
10. Run 5 5k races
11. Run a 10k race
12. Travel to Paris
13. Ride a horse
14. Burn wedding photos onto CD and send to relatives
15. Watch Citizen Kane

I guess I should explain the items on the list (well some of them at least). The finishing of any sort of photo album is something that I need to write down or I will NEVER do it. We took about 360 pictures on our totally awesome honeymoon and I started to create a photo book through Picaboo but kind of dropped the project altogether. I also have a lot of random items related to the wedding (like the Baltimore Sun article where I'm quoted a bajillion times about the Running of the Brides) that I'd like to keep somewhere. So why not a scrapbook? I'm not really a scrapbooking kind of gal but I figured making one album won't kill me. Or maybe it will.

I'm also working on being a "better" person. I always say that I'd love to volunteer for a cause but I just never follow through. I'm also trying to be a little more environmentally friendly and it kills me that my friends don't recycle. I will make them convert! Even if it means that I'm the one that has to schlep all of the recyclables to the center myself... it will still make me feel better to know that its getting done vs. having a ton of bottles needlessly thrown away. This also goes for the drinking more tap water vs. bottled water.

Nanette's comment yesterday about donating her dress really made me think. I mean - I thought I'd hold onto my dress forever and maybe someday my daughter would wear it but come on! How likely is that? And where the hell am I going to store a giant box with my dress in it? Its time to let it go.

And... the horse thing. I'm deathly afraid of horses. They can bite your fingers off and kick you to death... what's NOT to be afraid of? But - its still kind of dumb. Everyone has ridden a horse at some point in their life, right? I need to try it. Maybe I'll discover that horses are just misunderstood friendly beings. Or maybe I'll get swatted to death by their tail. Who knows?

I'll update you guys as my list grows on what I've added. Any suggestions for me? Is there anything you can think of that you've always wanted to do?

Well you can add:
Go see Björk in concert!! Woo!!
Go to Cedar Point!?!?!? (maybe?)

I love stumbling across old burnt CDs that I've forgotten about. It's like seeing an old friend that you haven't seen in years!! They always take you back too

I hope the Mr isn't making fun of shot glass collections! I have a ton of shot glasses, but I wouldn't make dusting them a priority in my life either.

Horses are evil!! Ok, not really. Make sure you go with someone who knows what they're doing or get lessons. I went before as a kid, but the first time I went as a big boy was last year in Costa Rica. The girls wanted to do the horseback riding on the beach thing, and I figured it would be fun. Well Alua (our guide) didn't speak Engligh well, and apparently my saddle wasn't adjusted right or something, but it hurt soooooo bad!! I wanted to keep a nice slow pace, but Alua had other ideas. He whipped my horse into a gallop and the whole time I'm wincing in pain and yelling..."No mas!!" It was awful...I was rubbed raw!! I still have the marks to this day.

I'm flattered that I have "impeccable" taste in music. I also am happy that I inspired you to watch Jacob's Ladder. I was so scared of the guy with the really fast moving head after watching that.
