This weekend, The Mr. and I tiled the backsplash of our kitchen. We (more so ME than we though) also painted the kitchen a nice light green color. This is the most productive weekend we've had in a loooong time. And I have to say, its quite calming to have a working kitchen again. I think I've been a much nicer person. I'm also proud to say that we didn't fight at all during this process.
For those of you who don't really know us, we don't fight. Its weird - and I'm kind of "moody" but we don't fight. That is, of course, unless we're working on some sort of home renovation project like painting. I still feel really bad for Kristin who was kind of enough to help us paint our bedroom 2 years ago when we were fighting. It was nasty.
So here are some fun pictures. I'm a huge geek and took a bajillion pictures of our progress. I think it may have annoyed The Mr. just a wee bit.
Here are some "before" pictures:

Don't mind the dorky pic from New Year's Eve. I was trying to find a good "before" with our window treatment.

Some midway pictures:
I was hating life at this point...

Hooray for a countertop and sink!

The tiling process:

Here's the paint color. I stopped in this corner because the white wall leads down to the basement and will require us to paint all the way down. Since we're redoing the kitchen floors, The Mr. wants to wait until that's complete because it will require that the baseboards be pulled from the wall... and I think we were both POOPED from doing the tiles.

All done!
Sorry for the poor quality but this was taken with my phone.
Now I'm asking your opinion. We got new window treatments from Target and while I like them both - I don't know if its too bunchy. I think I'm just not used to different curtains so its throwing me off a little. They're the Shabby Chic curtains seen here:

What do you think?

Yay!!
I can't wait to see the new kitchen on Wednesday before dinner.
Congrats on completing the home improvement project with the Mr without killing each other too.
I like the treatments ok. I'd have to see them in person though
They do look "bunchier" in your kitchen than from the webpage. I think they look fine though
YAY FOR A NEW KITCHEN! Your tiles look really good! And I love the sink and the new faucet. I don't know how you went so long without a dishwasher, our sucks and it's killing me. We don't have a disposal and that's driving me more crazy than i ever thought it would. you've inspired me, my turn to go crazy with a messy kitchen now.
I like the curtains. Maybe it just looks like it's too much cause the window and the door are so close together you're seeing both and it's overwhelming til you get used to it.
wow, the kitchen looks great!! you and the mr. did an amazing job! can't wait to see it tonight.
did you at least get great "the-wife-and-i-did-something-productive" nookie afterward? bah, what am i thinking? you're newlyweds ... any occasion is an occasion for hot, sweaty monkey sex.
::whispers:: i want details later, mmkay?
wow! the kitchen looks awesome! love the tiles and i also think the new curtains go great with the kitchen makeover. i think the bunchy look works well in there :-)
