So how would you interpret this...
I was in class last Thursday and creepy guy/chatty cathy was talking my ear off despite all of my polite social cues of "Hey - I'm trying to read this article here...". I found out, however, that he's married with children. He immediately was removed from creepy guy status to just chatty cathy.
We chatted briefly about the difficulties of going to grad school when you work full-time and have a family. He even complimented my wedding band (and flattery makes you a-okay in my book).
During our class break, he went off to get a 2-pack of chocolate donuts from the vending machine. I took this time to meet my new partner and group for the semester presentation and projects. He was kind of lingering around me at this time but whatever.
I then said, "I hope that's not your dinner!" to which he replied that it sadly was... and then said something about his wife's dinners. I can't remember but it prompted me to say, "Oh - is she not a good cook?"
Chatty Cathy: No - she's a great cook. She just happens to be an aerobics instructor.
Me: [interpreting that comment to mean that her meals are always healthy] Yeah - my husband probably has the same complaint about me because I went all vegetarian on him.
Chatty Cathy: I'M A VEGETARIAN TOO!
Me: [a little taken aback with his enthusiasm] Oh? That's cool.
Chatty Cathy: We should grab a beer after class sometime and talk about it.
Me: [pretending I didn't hear that comment since I was shuffling through my binder]
So - Ryan thinks that it was harmless because he acknowledged that he's married and that I'm married and perhaps he's just a friendly guy.
I always find the worst in people and think that everyone has an ulterior motive (i.e. sexual predator). I'm concerned that perhaps he was being a creepy perv.
How would you take it?

He totally wants to show you his penis.
Friendly guy wants to have beer and share his donuts with you? I personally wouldn't go out to get a beer with someone in a class-- no matter how nice-- unless there were more people invited.
That's just weird. Why would you grab a beer to discuss being a vegetarian? Isn't "i don't eat meat" pretty much the extent of that discussion?
Thank you! What more is there to talk about?
I don't eat meat.
Really? Me either.
Cool.
Cool.
What else can be said?
I agree - that's weird. And think of it this way - what if it were your husband asking a married girl in one of his classes to go grab a drink with him? It would be much less strange if it were in a big group.
Ryan is clueless!!!!!!!!! He’s such the perv!(the guy from your class)
Please refer to Sex in the City Episode 65 ‘A ‘Vogue’ Idea’ Married people can be pervs too!
He's a perv...he wants to bump uglys...well that's my instinct anyway. I love how CAG references Sex in the City...bless her heart :)
While I'm not sure that he's a perv (maybe he's just lonely?) - that would totally creep me out. So, no matter if he is or if he isn't - I'd act like he is just to be on the safe side...
Ewww me no likey. He likes your lady humps apparently.
I have a wife and family. When I was in school, I felt very guilty about not being at home and missing family time. Why would I ask a woman to meet after class for a beer...certainly not to discuss our shared dietary likes. Stear clear.
desperate+creepy*weener/inverted balls
I would steer clear. while he could just be trying to make friends, that's a bit over the top. I feel better when my hubby and I both are invited to do things.
that's just weird. he's probably socially inept and that's the only way he can talk to people. ewwww! i don't know. i wouldn't go to grab a beer with him.
