My Concert Fairy Godmother

There has been so much randomness going on that I don't ever know what to blog about. Is this a blogger thing? I often find myself out and about when something random happens and think, "ooh! I'm going to blog about THAT!" and never do. I always forget. And why am I thinking about my blog outside of my computer? Ugh.

Anyho - I forgot to mention that I finally got to see The Cure this past weekend in Philly. I love The Cure. Love them. They have always been in my top 5 ever changing favorite bands and I missed the chance to see them in concert back in 1995. They didn't tour again for awhile and then out of nowhere, they announced their worldwide tour last year. Theresa, my concert fairy godmother, bought the tickets for the November show but it was cancelled.

I'm not going to lie, when it was time to go up there for the show - I wasn't feeling it. My back and neck hurt from the dragonboat paddle practice (I kept referring to this as my company's row team thinking that nobody knew what a dragonboat was... but apparently I was wrong and everyone knows that a dragonboat is) and I didn't feel like making the 1 hour and 45 minute drive up to Philly. And the idea of standing up for an hour or two didn't seem very appealing. My old and weary body just couldn't take it.

Well holy shit, I'm glad I went. First of all - the crowd alone was enough to entertain me. It was the most bizarre mix of people. You had your standard goth people, mixed with the new emo teenage crowd... but then, oh yes, you had a TON of 40-somethings who peaked in the 80s and were just reliving their youth. I'm sure Theresa and I didn't look like we blended in although we were sure to wear our most muted colors.

Also in the crowd was a couple featured on an episode of Whose Wedding is it Anyways?. If you frequently watch the show (and I can't believe I'm admitting that I still watch it), can you guess what couple would attend a Cure concert? That's right, the couple from "Goth Love and Public Affairs". Is it completely lame that I was stoked about seeing a couple from a wedding show? Yikes.

Anywho - the current members of The Cure mostly consist of the original members (at least according to Wikipedia). The drummer is fairly new (1995 to present) while the bassist and guitarist have been in and out throughout the late 70s and 80s).

So for a bunch of aging dudes, they were amazing. Robert Smith sounds almost exactly the same as he always has and they played a lot of my favorites. I was hoping they'd play "A Letter to Elise" but it's kind of a downer so I can see why they didn't. Regardless, they rocked out for 3 fucking hours. And did I mention we were in the 5th row??

Madonna, whom I love but charges 3 times as much for her tickets, only performs for about an hour to an hour and a half.

I was in heaven and the pain in my back went away. Well... until the next morning when I couldn't really move and my brother-in-law had to give me a painkiller so I could sleep that night. It was well worth it, my friends.

Oh and I guess I should elaborate on why Theresa is my concert fairy godmother. I think in all the shows I've ever been to in my life, only 3 of them have been without Theresa. She's my music pal. She loves live shows and always knows when a band/singer is coming around. I think I probably owe her oodles of money and favors just because without her, I probably would miss out on some great experiences and even some great singers (because I live in a box... and am never exposed to new music).

I love going to concerts. I haven't been to one in ages. Must put on my list of things to do.

Oh and the 90210 commercial? Isn't really a teaser...it literally has the numbers "90210" fade up while the music plays.

It's still amazing though :)
