I had a lot of things I wanted to accomplish this summer. The fact that we're in August and class starts in 3 weeks is indicating that the summer is almost over and I realized yesterday that I didn't really do much.
In May (actually May 15th), I went through my list and picked out things that I thought I could easily do over the summer. I picked out 46 items. Pretty ambitious, right? While some items were things I thought I could at least start and maybe not finish, I thought I'd at least tackle more than 50% of this list:
3. Finish Wedding scrapbook
4. Burn all Digital photos on computer onto a CD and store (I've started this!)
6. Volunteer for something (Habitat for Humanity, etc.)
7. Donate wedding dress
11. Run a 10k race (at least start training for this)
13. Ride a horse
15. Watch Citizen Kane
16. Go to a movie alone
17. Eat in a restaurant alone
22. Organize photographs (no more shoeboxes!)
23. Scan all of my parents' old photos into digital format and burn to cd
24. Scan all of my old photos into digital format and burn to cd
26. Purchase artwork created by a local artist
31. Learn to sew on a sewing machine
32. Sew something (a dress, curtains, etc)
33. Learn more Korean (enough to speak sentences)
34. Go camping
35. Play a game of golf
37. Shoot a shotgun
39. Bake and decorate a cake for someone (from scratch!)
40. Try "GoSmile" tooth whitening
41. Visit Divine's grave in Towson
43. Ride a bike along the entire NCR trail (approx 20 miles) http://www.dnr.state.md.us/greenways/ncrt_trail.html
45. Visit 4 state parks in Maryland that you've never been to before (Not all of this but maybe 2)
46. See a Drag show
48. Adopt another dog
49. Take a self-defense class
51. Watch Gone with the Wind
55. Try glass-blowing
57. Use a power tool to build something
58. Go to a midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show
61. Take my parents to a museum
66. Find a good tailor and get some clothes tailored
67. Plant a plant in the front planter that survives longer than a month
68. Read an entire newspaper
69. Go vegan for a week
70. Buy mace pepper spray and carry it around
75. Get a new library card (if I'm not still a bandit) and visit the Enoch Pratt library in Highlandtown
77. Buy myself a nice piece of jewelry (no more waiting for it to be a gift)
78. Professionally reframe grandmother's brooch and update the engraved plaque with her year of death
79. Read 2 professional development books (Blink,...)
81. Take a bootcamp work out course (3 weeks)
83. Take a pilates class at an authentic pilates studio
87. Clean out all of your stuff from your parents' house (it's not a storage facility!)
88. Take an exotic dance class (bachelorette parties don't count)
94. Make a decorative craft
It seems like a lot but if you actually took the time to read the items, many of them are pretty simple. So how many did I complete? 10%. That's right, I only completed 5 out of 46 tasks. Holy fucking shit, batman - what the hell was I doing?
So let me list out the ones that I accomplished:
6. Volunteer for something (Maryland SPCA)
13. Ride a horse
15. Watch Citizen Kane
46. See a Drag show
81. Take a bootcamp work out course
Not too shabby especially since the bootcamp class was an 8-week course. But what the hell? How could I have possibly not read an entire newspaper at this point? Or even find a damn tailor?
And that learn Korean stuff? My in-laws bought me the Rosetta Stone program FOR CHRISTMAS. I've been sitting on this shit for 8 months! I have no excuses for this and it's pitiful that I only did 5 things. I've decided that I can easily accomplish these within the next 3 weeks (because they're minor things):
7. Donate wedding dress (I am totally slacking on this. I really thought it would be easy to get rid of my dress. I'm not going to wear it again. What's the hold up?)
16. Go to a movie alone (I may have to do this because I can't see Mamma Mia with Kristin on Thursday)
26. Purchase artwork created by a local artist
39. Bake and decorate a cake for someone (from scratch!)
40. Try "GoSmile" tooth whitening
41. Visit Divine's grave in Towson
43. Ride a bike along the entire NCR trail (approx 20 miles) http://www.dnr.state.md.us/greenways/ncrt_trail.html
51. Watch Gone with the Wind
94. Make a decorative craft
Seriously - buy mace? What the fuck?! Try a tooth whitening thing? Seriously?! This isn't hard. Buy jewelry? You don't have to twist my arm! Get a library card? I've had the application filled out for over a month!
I freaked out a bit about my slacker summer to The Mr so we're going to attempt to bike the NCR trail (and this is assuming my Huffy mountain bike from 1994 is still in good shape!) and we're going to a state park we've never been to before on Saturday. Maybe I can also squeeze in purchasing jewelry, getting a library card and buying mace in there too.
I might try to squeeze these things in before the end of summer but they take a little more effort:
49. Take a self-defense class
66. Find a good tailor and get some clothes tailored
67. Plant a plant in the front planter that survives longer than a month
83. Take a Pilates class at an authentic Pilates studio
88. Take an exotic dance class (bachelorette parties don't count)
Finding a Pilates studio in Baltimore that doesn't require you to buy packages is tough and it's really expensive. Planting a plant that doesn't die? That's a lot of effort man. I have to like… water it and care for it. And I also have to manage to keep stray cats from peeing and pooping in the planter… or from leaving dead birds in it for us. Seriously - I think the bird mafia is after us, guys.

Oooo I can help on two of those!!
I have the BEST tailor EVER! He took apart my bridesmaid gown that was 3 sizes too big and made it look BRAND new! Who is this god-tailor - J&J Alterations 1504 York Rd Lutherville, MD 21093 Phone:410-825-2928. He's done three of my dresses now - Perfectly!
Also, glass blowing. Jon and I are planning to go next month to a "Date Night" where you go and watch them demonstrate all these forms and then you can take a stab at it! It's right on Eastern Ave. They also offer classes. www.mcfaddenartglass.com When we go I'll drag you with us :)
Ok...I think that's all I've got - for now :)
I've been working on the Rocky Horror thing and found 2 places that do shows every Saturday...the problem is they're 80 min away.
One is in Newark, DE
http://www.cinemacenter3.com/rocky_horror.html
The other is in Fairfax, VA
http://www.trannyconcubines.com/
(I love this URL) :)
i'll do the self-defense class with you and i want in on the rocky horror show viewing.
I have 2 huge totebags full of wedding stuff to scrapbook, but I haven't even gotten started! And it's almost our two year anniversary. Slacker, much?
i'm glad i was able to be a part of your "drag show" # .. :) not sure i could help you out with any others unless "people watch and make fun of everyone with geoff" is on there ... but wait, we've already done that one.
ooh, sorry for the double post, but i'll totally go camping (#34) with you!!!
Gone With The Wind is a great movie but it's 4 (four) hours long! It's a commitment. I watched an hour a day of it at the beach last year.
Why would you want to read an entire newspaper? That's silly. No one is interested in EVERYTHING in the newspaper.
(not sure if I'm double posting. It's asking me for the word verification again)
