I Wasn't Going To…

I promised myself I wasn't going to blog about politics. Not because I don't care and not because I didn't vote (I voted!), but because everyone in the blogosphere is buzzing about the election results. What was I really going to add?

It's been quite amusing to hear the reactions of the results amongst my co-workers.

So while I am thrilled that the U.S. is potentially moving past racial barriers - it saddens me immensely that Proposition 8 was passed. I don't even live in California and I'm not gay but it truly astonishes me that people feel that this should even be a LAW! It astonishes me that we've now elected an African-American as the President of the U.S. but somehow can't handle giving rights to homosexuals.

Up until 1967, interracial marriages were illegal. Can you imagine if that was still the case today? Many people scoff that such laws ever existed. Many people think it's absurd. Believe me - if this was still an issue, I'd probably not be here nor would I be married to The Mr.

So why is it that people have such a problem with same-sex marriages? I'm disgusted, saddened, angered and heart-broken that Proposition 8 was passed yesterday.

If interracial marriages were illegal, we wouldn't have Obama. The sad thing is that black voters overwhelmingly voted to pass this horrific proposition. I hope there are ways to fight it through the legal system, it also makes me so sad despite the fact that it has nothing to do with me.

I have been physically sick to my stomach all day because of Prop 8 passing. That sounds melodramatic, but I'm serious. I'm so disappointed with people in my state, and devasated about this loss of civil rights.

It's been awful going into this election - hearing all of the propaganda for Prop 8, the ruse that it's "protecting marriage and our children." I'm having a really hard time with the whole thing, and I sincerely hope that there is some kind of legal recourse, or that in 2010 we can amend this massive mistake.

i'm not gay or biracial, but i think everyone should be allowed to have the same rights. there's nothing wrong with love.
