Holiday Happenings around Baltimore

Like I said yesterday, I really am trying to get into the holiday spirit. It's been stressful couple of months and I really want some holiday cheer. Dammit.

So, I've been looking up things to do around the city I love because quite frankly - the idea of fighting people in a mall kills all of my holiday cheer. Also the idea of Outlets shopping with my mom kind of zaps my energy and will to live. Kidding... I love my mom. Just spend an afternoon with her and perhaps you'll understand. I think the day will be spent dodging questions about babies.

Aaanywho - things to do around Baltimore.

Some of the obvious things are:

Baltimore's Miracle on 34th Street in Hampden.

We've actually only gone to this once (with the in-laws!) mostly because I hate fighting traffic and generally hate people in general around the holidays but I'd like to give this another shot.

For those of you unsure of what this is, its a street in Hampden where all of the residents go nuts with Christmas lights. It's really quite amazing... I mean, we're talking beyond just plain ol' Christmas lights. A lot of Baltimore artists go above and beyond holiday decor.

This is such a holiday tradition that I've heard that Baltimore City gives these residents a break on their utility bills. I've also wondered if, as a resident of the street, you are forced to participate. Anywho - check it out.

Annual Parade of Lighted Boats
Oh crap - I just realized this took place last weekend. Whoops - missed it. Nevermind.

Some things I've never heard of before but may check out are:

23rd Annual Union Square Cookie Tour
Um... a cookie tour?! Sign me up.

Oh... apparently this isn't about food. Dammit! It still seems interesting. Details can be found here but it's basically a tour of old victorian homes. I love peeping into people's houses! Wait - that came out incorrectly... I mean, I love peeping into the decor of people's houses in a completely legal and not-creepy way.

Shopping Events
Who doesn't love shopping? I found this great article about some shopping events this month.

Yippee! Get me to an atm, stat!

Okay - I'll keep on searching but there's a place to start for you guys.

Side note, you should check out my buddy Ryan's new podcast:
TechCook and then leave him comments about how he should have a VEGAN cooking segment and that you know a kick-ass vegetarian cook that would make a great guest...

That is quite beautiful. I wish I lived near there, but not so near that I could see it from my house...

Those Christmas decorations make me feel so warm and fuzzy.

We're getting married in the Baltimore area ever since my fiance proposed to me with a gorgeous diamond engagement ring from www.idonowidont.com and looking for fun things to do w/ our fam before our big day.

I will have to take my parents and his parents to the Cookie tour first, that sounds fun!

I've always wanted to go to 34th Street to see the lights! Maybe this year I'll get around to it :)
