Okay - I know they're everywhere. I was trying to think of a clever title and all I could think of was that Paula Cole song Where Have all the Cowboys Gooooooone?. So anywho... its tough to find a good place that doesn't charge a ridiculous amount of money to rip your pubes out.
*Warning* This post may be TMI (Too Much Information, for those not in the know).
So -I used to be an avid Brazilian bikini waxee. I'm not sure why. It was something I was into when I was in college... and in a mountain of debt. I was really into blowing through money on useless things. I mean, I had never even shaved down there and its not like I was prancing around the beaches of St. Tropez. I just liked to keep things landscaped.
The first time I got one of the Brazilians done, it wasn't that awful. But the experience was nothing like described by Sex and the City. They didn't go NEAR my nether regions... they just stayed on the shore. So I basically shelled out a lot of money to say I got a "Brazilian Bikini Wax" when I really just got a bikini wax.
I went to several salons like this until I found a place in Annapolis. Kristin's hairdresser recommended them so I thought I'd give them a shot. Louisa was NOT shy. At last! A REAL Brazilian bikini wax. I was hooked. I felt so... clean. I went to Louisa for awhile but stopped when I moved to Baltimore.
Since this time, I have not really found a place that I'm willing to go to. I'm quite picky. There are some salons that charge over $80 for a Brazilian. Louisa charges $60. I get that waxers probably deserve more since they're going to some sketchy places but if I'm going to shell out $80, I want to make sure they're getting everything. How do you phrase that question? Um... excuse me. Does this waxing include... everything? You know... EVERYTHING. Talk about awkward.
I had found a quick fix solution in the form of a bikini trimmer. But its not the same. I finally manned up and drove down to Annapolis to see Louisa right before the wedding (in preparation for the honeymoon). It had been awhile and I had forgotten to (1) trim and (2) specify that I'd like to leave a little something behind so that I still felt like a woman.
Holy hell... I had to take a few breaks from the pain but I survived (although I felt like a 10 yr old for awhile... not exactly the sexiness I was trying to exude on the wedding night). But now I'm hooked again! I just don't want to drive all the way down to Annapolis. I also won't go to the following places:
The eyebrow threading salon: I don't know why I have such an issue with this. I just don't want the lady who shapes my brows to touch my pubes. Plus she seems a little on the conservative side. I don't want to lose my eyebrow threader because I crossed the line with her!
The nail salon: I won't go here because (1) they know my name (2) they know The Mr. and (3) I don't want the person who does my toenails to touch my pubes.
My hair salon: This place is just way overpriced and when I got my brows waxed here many moons ago, I was less than impressed and out $20.
There was a "body spa" that I went to once for The Mr.'s sister's bachelorette party and she got one and loved it. But she had never had one before. What was her basis for comparison? Plus its in Towson and the roads in Towson scare me. I panic in traffic circles. Therefore I also avoid DC at all costs.
So for the ladies that live around Baltimore... where do you go?

i have 2 great ladies but they work at the red door in gaithersburg.
Try finding a good bikini waxer for guys. We want to feel fresh, too. I mean, they gotta handle your junk to get around it. I used to go to Butch's Chop Shop down Merit Blvd for a while, but he was too rough on me. I tried going to one of the ladies, but it's really awkward when you pop a boner. Guys want to be sexy, too! Is this an untapped market?!!!
Hey, I know this post is a bit old, but where does Louisa work? I am new to Annapolis and trying to find a reliable waxer...thanks!
Hey Marissa! I hope that you are checking back on this...
Louisa works at a place called "Jacarandas". Its right next to "Karen James' Studio" in downtown Annapolis. She's fabulous. Check her out!
Thank you! I'll definitely check her out
