Remember this movie? I used to *love* it. I haven't seen it in quite some time but I'm pretty sure it could still turn on the water works.
I am a mean person. There, I said it. Aside from my "aggressive" and "hostile" tone, I just don't really sympathize or empathize with people anymore. Okay, maybe I do for small children and the sweet elderly folk (not the mean ones) but that's about it. I have little tolerance for the sensitive.
I'm not sure when this happened. I especially have little tolerance for sensitive women. I've kind of turned into a feminist over the last few years and nothing annoys me more than a blubbering woman (unless tragedy has struck). It makes me want to yell, "This is why men think that women can't be in power!"
When The Mr. and I went to see Knocked Up in the theatre, we were subjected to commercials BEFORE the previews. When did this happen? Isn't it bad enough we have to take out a small loan just to see the damn movie...? Now we have to watch commercials?! Anywho... there was a commercial for a show called "Army Wives". It was about a group of... you guessed it... Army wives that befriend each other on a base. So while their husbands are at work, these women are each other's support system. Give me a motherf'n break. I honestly said, "give me a break" quite loudly (much to The Mr.'s embarrassment... since we were in a theatre quite close to a military base). Why is it that its always the women? The women are stuck behind bearing children, being emotional, not kicking ass? Ugh. I'd like to see "Army Husbands"... a show about a group of stay at home men who hold each other when their wives are mean to them. Puke.
I really digressed there. What I really wanted to talk about was how its funny that I no longer feel for people anymore... but for animals. Since we adopted our 2 mini dachshunds (Cutest.Dogs.Ever), I've become quite the sap about pets. I'm currently reading "Marley and Me" and just about every other chapter makes me cry.
Without giving too much away, the chapter I read last night had to do with Marley acclimating to the new baby. When did I start caring about babies?! Since you threw a dog into the picture, that's when. And the next chapter was about Marley being a sort of "guard dog". Ack! I'm getting choked up now.
As I was watching Petie (my dog) pee yesterday, I couldn't help but think just how freaking cute he is. Even though I've woken up to him puking in the bed for the last 2 mornings (fun stuff), I still love him. And I can't help but wonder how pet lovers can eat meat. I'm not trying to get preachy here but honestly... how can you look at a dog so lovingly, yet feel complete detachment from eating a cow. Cows have 2 eyes, a nose, a mouth... they "moo" and walk around and hang out. They think. They feel. How can you eat it? Same goes for pigs and chickens and any animal really. I'm even feeling bad for the fish. They die by suffocation! That's awful. Can you imagine? You're just hanging out with your pals and one day some guy just comes up and throws a bag over your head and suffocates you. I don't imagine its fun.
Wow - when did I become such a hippie? Anywho, I guess what I'm trying to say is that becoming a pet owner has really changed me.
Oh and The Mr. and I are looking for a new dog. The criteria for the new dog is:
- Must not be HUGE (we live in a row home with 2 small dogs and a small patch of grass)
- Must get along with 2 mini dachshunds
- Must be short-haired
- Must not be too hyperactive as it will have to be kept in the house for 8 hrs a day without people to play with
- Must be able to catch a Frisbee (this is The Mr.'s criteria... our 2 dogs could care less about playing catch)
Any ideas?
*Again, no photos. I'm not at my computer today.*

Don't the Dogs eat meaty things?
Just curious
I have to play devils advocate for a bit here. If you choose a vegetarian lifestyle for moral reasons like animal cruelty, then you really need to consider being a full-blown vegan.
Dairy cows only produce milk after having a calf. The female calves are either slaughtered or raised to be dairy cows, and the fellas are raised for veal...and we know what that means.
Eggs are another thing. We all have seen Napoleon Dynamite right? The chickens are put into these tiny cages and they poop all over each other. The male chicks are useless since they don't produce eggs so they are killed too..."do the chickens have large talons?" :)
I'm not saying that giving up dairy is the way to go...hell I'm a heartless meat eater, but if your reason for giving up meat is the way the animals are treated then how can you justify eating dairy?
I completely agree that animals are treated horribly, but couldn't the answer be to force the farmers to treat them more humanely? I'd pay more for my food if I knew it meant the animals are treated better, but ultimately they are going to be in my belly.
I love meat, meat is murder...does that mean I love murder??
I don't mean to make light of this, I admire your convictions, but for me ignorance is bliss because I'd HATE to have to give up my yummy meats :)
Aw - Jamie, I respect your comments. :) Actually, I have switched off of the milk I so dearly love drinking for soy milk. I'm trying to give up the other stuff... and well, eggs haven't been that difficult for me to kick.
But with that said, since I'd probably die without cheese - I am with you in that I'd pay more for products knowing that the animals were treated humanely (i.e. roamed free and happily on a farm).
I am trying! I never said it would be easy. I'm only a month into the whole "no meat/fish" diet and its been difficult on the weekends when its just so easy to just go grab a burger somewhere. I may eventually go vegan (much to The Mr's dismay). I'm still learning here.
And Ryan - dogs eat meaty things. They're carnivores. Its their nature. Although I'd argue and say that Petie just eats it and chucks it back up. :) We're omnivores...
I'm obsessed with Marley & Me. And you will continue to sob your eyes out throughout the entire book (or at least I did).
Boston terriers are small, short haired and like catching frisbees. Many terrier breeds are like this...but can be hyper.

i think being a feminist is more about being able to be yourself, whether youre a man or woman, and not be judged. that doesn't mean you have to appear insensitive to get ahead. and if more men thought (or learned from an early age) it was socially acceptable to show their feelings, women wouldn't look like they were "blubbering". just a thought... i consider myself a feminist...and i'm sensitive.
welcome to the green side kimmy!!!
i'm not really sure what to comment on. the veggie thing first. i don't agree that you HAVE to go vegan for moral grounds. having been a veggie and currently switching back to it, i am always aware of where my food comes from, not just it's animal content. free-range eggs, livestock, fair trade chocoloate and coffee, etc. morality can be as much about awareness as it is about choices.
as to the insensitivty issue. i've know you your entire life (literally) and i know you are not cruel, mean, or evil. we all have things that make us weep, angry and indignant. as to attitude, sometimes we tend to give out what we get, reactionary. and sometimes we need to armour ourselves against the cynicism, manipulation, and even mundane in the world around us. so being a bit tough on over-manipulated hollywood crap, or incessant moans from people around us isn't being cruel or insensitive, it's just being the person you have become. one thing i will say about living in another country, it wakes you up to how melo-dramatic and overly PC the US is and is becoming. i don't want to get crap for being anti-american for this, but it is true.
Forget about dogs. Get a camel. They can spit and they drink very little water. You can ride around town on their back and they're great conversation pieces!
