I'll talk about Project Bjork - and the craziness that Jamie and I encountered along the way.
First, Jamie picked me up around 1:30ish and we were on our way! I had asked what we were going to call this magical journey and he said we'd call it monosodium glutamate. I didn't quite get it until he showed me his FOLDER that held several different sets of directions based on different travel scenarios in New Jersey. The Folder name was printed from a LABEL MAKER and it said: Bjork - MSG:

I heart Jamie.
During our travels, we had the pleasure of catching a glimpse of this piece of art on a semi:

I know its difficult to read so in case you can't read it, it says: Hey Baby Girl... are you gonna suck it or not?. The definition of class.
Here's a little bit a trivia for you. I am awful at interpreting MapQuest directions and I can't read a map. Basically, I'm an awful co-pilot.
Because of my handicap, I managed to miss telling Jamie to take the first exit to get onto the NJ turnpike (we took the scenic route!), insisted that MapQuest meant we had to take Exit 14 despite the directions stating that we needed I-78 East... and the exit for I-78 East was actually Exit 14 B... I managed to lead us in the wrong direction (I-78 West). Whoops!
Then, as if that wasn't bad enough... we took the wrong exit into Hoboken, NJ. We were deathly afraid of going anywhere near a tunnel (Holland or Lincoln) so we took an exit that dropped us on the other side of town... far far away from the PATH station we needed. We drove in circles, got to know Hoboken very well, and then FINALLY found the parking garage and PATH station. And (!!) we passed a gay bar along the way (The Cage).
We still weren't feeling 100% excited only because we had taken so many wrong turns along the way. We said we wouldn't be comfortable until we were THERE. So, we hopped on the PATH train (side note - how fun does it seem to work in NYC? So many uber hip yuppies were in the station) and headed to NYC. Our stop was in the Manhattan Mall... and that worked out so well because it was chilly out and I was wearing a sleeveless shirt. I purchased a cute little Bitten hoodie from Steve & Barry's.
Then we headed to Madison Square Garden! I've never been there before so that was fun. We got there fairly early and Jamie informed me that we were in the "pit" and would be standing for several hours. I hurt my back the day before so I was a little concerned about how I would feel... luckily, I was having such a great time, I didn't realize how badly my back hurt (until I woke up the next morning).
The place was practically empty when we got there:

Jamie on the device that saved our lives! Thank god for internet access from a fancy phone. Google Maps saved the day.

There were 2 bands that opened. The first was a local band (or she was from India... or Copenhagen if you ask Jamie and NOT Brooklyn, NY like she said) called Santogold. I linked her MySpace page and if you get a chance - you should really check her out. I *love* her music. She reminds me of M.I.A. I'm hooked but apparently they don't have an album out. And, in the small world that is my life, when I looked through her MySpace pictures... I saw a few of my ex-boyfriend. How random! He's also into that whole music scene in NYC.
Next up was Klaxons, a british import whose music I was digging when I listened to them online... but whose live performance was a bit frightening in that the lead vocalist looked about 12 yrs old and was noticeably drunk... and it was very loud... and the bassist was wearing a monk's robe.
Finally, the one and only Bjork. I wasn't much of a fan until this show and now I want to hug her and love her. She is so cute, so energetic and basically put on one of the best live performances I have ever seen.

I was a bit disturbed by the number of highly intoxicated fans in the pit mostly because Jamie told me that Bjork's tour in the U.S. was only in 2 cities so a ton of people from all over the country came to this show. It seems like such a waste to get hammered. The highlight was this very drunk young lady:

This photo doesn't really capture her turdiness but she basically shoved her way in front of us and started taking a ton of photos and video from her camera. That all sounds nice and normal, right? The problem was that she was holding her camera in Jamie's line of vision, as well as in front of the faces of the people in front of her. She was deranged.
Jamie asked her nicely to move and she said, "oh - I'll e-mail you the photos" to which he replied, "That's okay, honey... I'd rather see the show live and not through your camera." She put the camera down momentarily but started right up again. She was trying to shove her way even further up front but the guys in front of us wouldn't let her through (good for them! we had been there for 3 hours!!). I yelled at her for a bit about being a rude turd and then Jamie finally exchanged some heated words with her (as well as many other people around us) and she left. She left this gem with Jamie before her dramatic exit: "Your girlfriend sucks!"
She really missed the mark on that one, huh?
Anywho - I had a blast! I couldn't move the next day but I had a blast! And I am now, more so than ever, convinced that I want to live in NYC.

You so know that the trucker was also at the concert... small world huh?
I had soooo much fun with you!!
I'm glad we did the 1 day adventure rather than staying in NY for the night...it just made it that much more exciting!!
No worries about your navigation skills...we got there in PLENTY of time to get prime location...all is well that ends well.
Santogold really did kick butt...but Björk rocked my freakin' face off!!! Klaxons...not so much
Seriously, that girl was ao annoying. She dropped her camera twice, and both times I was hoping it was broken. She wasn't even watching the concert...her loss.
I'm glad you guys had a great time! Ya gotta love mini-adventures!
And, to answer your question, yes I speak, write, read, and understand Russian, Serbian and Croatian fluently. I also know a little bit of Bosnia.
You're crazy if you want to live in NYC. I had a friend who moved there in 1992 (yes, when you were 5) and he paid $2400 to live in a shoebox in the middle of the road. It was ridiculous. And the McDonald's Value Meal was $7.99. What the f-in hell??? I survived for 3 days on $2 dirty water hot dogs. And the thick stinky air....
Ok, try as I might, I wanted to get to your first post to read your blog from the beginning. After searching valiantly for an archive list, I deduced there wasnt one, and painfully started clicking the "Older Posts" link at the bottom of each page that loaded.
This is as far as I got (my luck, the beginning is probably a page or two away).
I beg and plead, for the sake of other readers who may want to read from the beginning, add an archive widget/gadget to your side bar...pleeeeease :P
