Yes and no. It really depends on your definition of completing a job and what level of workmanship you expect.
Apparently we forgot to specify what exactly we were looking for when we signed the contract.
Clarence, the contractor whose "world is crumbling" because his wife left him and took all their stuff along with their two kids, didn't actually show up on Saturday. He sent his 3-man crew. I should really amend that to say a 1 man crew with 2 turds that stood around, stank, and just kept asking me how much I paid for stuff in my house. I was getting nervous so when one of them asked me about my dogs, I lied and said they were free. I didn't want them to take my dogs!
The Mr. went to a football game with his pops leaving me alone in the house with 3 strange men all day. I hid in the basement like a hunchback because I didn't want to hang with the crew. They got to the house around 11:30am (only 3 hours late!) and didn't finish until about 6:30pm (luckily, The Mr. was home by that point).
This post could really end up being about 20-pages so I'll just list out my grievances:
- When I went to use the bathroom, I noticed that they didn't flush. I'm down with the whole "if its yellow, keep it mellow" but not when you're a stranger in my house! I hope they were just trying to be really helpful with water conservation. Oh and before The Mr. freaks out - we don't actually practice the whole not flushing thing.
- They pooped. I saw remnants of poo in the toilet. Again - its just weird when you're a stranger in my house.
- They repeatedly asked me how much I paid for stuff.
- Removing the old bullnose from the stairs exposed some holes in the drywall (not their fault). I assumed that they'd properly patch it but instead they filled it with caulk. FILLED A HOLE WITH CAULK. And got caulk on the stairs.
That's about it for now. When it was time to pay, the only true worker asked The Mr. "Am I supposed to get a check from you or did you already square things with Clarence?" The Mr. told him that he wasn't sure what he should write a check for because Clarence said he'd 'work things out' in terms of a new price since he cancelled twice on us. The guy tried to call Clarence and he didn't answer. The Mr. called Clarence and he didn't answer. We didn't write a check.
Strangely, Clarence hasn't called us for his money (which he repeatedly told me that he loved). Maybe we got what we paid for? $150 stair and hallway job... and it shows.
*Update* Pictures:
Our stairs before:

Our stairs after. When putting the hardwood down, it knocked off the side stair brackets. We weren't pissed because we weren't very happy with the old ones (a little too whimsical for us) and assumed they were cheap. Well, we went to buy new ones and apparently whimsical is all that is offered at Lowes or Home Depot... and their $10 a piece! Crikey!

Massive holes filled crappily with caulk:

Another shot of the crappy workmanship. Look at it! This is how they LEFT it. Ugh!

Yikes I think he should've gotten more knocked off for the work they did!
Thanks for the idea to write down a list of our main priorities! We def need to do that this weekend because there are just too many things to focus on otherwise. And yes - point me in the right direction for resources!!
What were they thinking?? I think you'll be alright once you fix the crappy caulk job. The stairs look good otherwise though
